The word “cake” has Vikings’ origins. It comes from the Old Norse word “kaka”.
Early cakes in England were also essentially bread. The big difference between a “cake” and “bread” was the round, flat shape of the cakes. The cooking method was also different: cakes were turned over once while cooking, while bread was left upright throughout the baking process.
Sponge cakes, leavened with beaten eggs, originated during the Renaissance, possibly in Spain.

Beautiful treats. My partner makes a Swedish ostkaka for Christmas dinner. It is similar to a cheesecake in a pudding dish.
Wow! Sounds great!
It is fantastic. It’s his Swedish grandmother’s recipe.
🥰
Is there something such as a National Cake Day? I’m shocked. Anyways it’s a good thing to eat cake I guess💯
