I start blogging in September 2012 and my traffic for 2013 and 2014 was not good at all, as you can see in the image.
I had a few followers and few people saw my posts. After reading about traffic and visitors I manage to get more people reading my blog with just a few steps. So here is something to help you gain more traffic without paying anything:
- Write short posts because people don’t like to get lost in the story. Most of us don’t have time to read thousands of words.
- Read every day other people blogs.
- Try to answer to all your visitors.
- Use links to other posts when is necessary.
- Use Facebook, Pinterest and other social sharing sites to promote your posts.
- Tell beautiful stories.
- Write guest posts for other blogs and have guest posts.
- Try to write a post once a week.
- Use beautiful photos and have an attractive title.
- Create better content and use appropriate tags.
Most of my time spent on internet is used reading other blogs. I love to read about food, recipes, photography, travelling, sports, health, etc. I appreciate with a like or a comment if I like something in that post: a photo, a story, a presentation, a recipe, etc. But, the most important thing is helping other bloggers. I am so happy when people tell me that I really helped them with a post and they are happy they found my blog. That means that I manage to help someone.

Thank you for inspiring words.. I am new to the Blogging world. Check out my blog on photography https://imnaila.wordpress.com/2016/08/31/attention-photographers-and-photo-critics/?preview=true

Thanks for your helpful post

I liked the part “write short posts”. I’m a quick reader, like to check out a post, read a couple minutes, hopefully learn one new thing, and move onto the next. The long posts that go on and on, just to make one point are boring (my opinion only), and I usually click off quickly. Visuals are good, too.
This is incredibly useful especially as I have just started my blog. Thank you.
You are welcome
really nice to share back !

Thank you for the post it’s certainly given me some things to think about, in my case I try to give information on the why as well as the how the link below is an example of this, while I feel this important, I do wonder if it sometimes makes my posts t0o long.
I do agree on the social media aspect and it really is something I need to work on along with the photography, however the title thing I’d be abit stuck with as I use mine to tell the reader the name of the recipe.
I do the same thing with the name.
Agree with you in this post 🙂
Thank you
Thank you
This is a very helpful post, thank you for sharing your tips. I’m curious, do you work on your blog full time?
Thanks for liking my post [http://wp.me/s268u8-omelette].
You are welcome. I am not working full time, not even part time. Just once a week maybe twice I post something. But I am thinking about that post for few days.
And what times do you tend to read other blogs?
When I have time. In the morning, afternoon, evening, waiting … Time spend reading other blogs is not time for my blog. Is a time to relax. I leave a like or a comment so people know that I read the post and come and read my too. This brings traffic.
My problem was that after having attended a build your website course I opened a controversialcook.com website with Bluehost because that was the one suggested by the course teacher. Unfortunately having a wordpress website with a hosting server doesn’t give one the readers option where one can exchange posts with other wordpress bloggers. Eventually I opened this blog controversialcook.wordpress.com and I put a page in my website with a link to it also specifying in the home page of this blog that controversialcook.com is my main website. However when I did some successful posts people rarely went to see my website that is the important one for me so I stopped posting blogs. The result was that I lost interest in posting blogs and only come here to read other bloggers and reply to them. Because of this confusion controversialcook.com is not as well known as it should be. However in the next few months thanks to new books that I’m publishing on the subject of food and cookery culture and food and cookery exhibitions in London as well as advertising in a magazine it will receive substantial publicity.
.
Happy to hear that
Thanks for this post! Short posts with lots of attractive photos definitely helps. I’ve also found that posting regularly or having a running feature that you revisit frequently (Outfit of the Day or Sunday Dinner, etc) is also helpful! Interacting with other bloggers is where I need to improve too haha
Thank you. Good ideas.
Very helpful advice – thank you for sharing!

Thanks for very informative post! Kudos 🙂
You are welcome
solid advice!
Thank you
Really helpful post for those of us just starting out! 🙂 And inspirational too.
Thank you
Thanks for your thoughts on blogging. However, I write for photographers. And sometimes (for better or, in your opinion worse) that means lots of explanation.
I expect readers like you with little time or interest in my discussions on photography wouldn’t bother reading.
I appreciate that many of your readers are mostly interested in the numbers.
That is what I do. I don’t ask anyone to do like a do. Long post for me means more than 3000 words. But if is something that I need to read I would read more than 3000 words.
Great article. I thought about guest blogging but not sure how to go about it. Any tips?
At the beginning my self, so still working on it.😄
Great post!
Thank you
These tips are all so useful and true! 🙂
