Turmeric milk

turmeric milk with cinnamon and honey

Just a few years ago I discovered turmeric, a new spice which I love. With all the healthy benefits, turmeric became an important spice to use in my kitchen. This year I discovered turmeric milk and now I am drinking it before I go to sleep.

I use my own recipe because is a way to add to this milk other healthy ingredients. If I don’t have almond milk or rice milk in my fridge I use cow’s milk.

Turmeric milk, an Ayurvedic drink, helps you boost your energy and health. Most of us drink turmeric milk at night to help with our sleep and heal common colds or sore throat. It also helps with indigestion, menstrual cramps, headaches, arthritis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Turmeric milk also fights different types of cancer: breast, colon, liver and prostate, and helps with depression, purifies blood, relieves pain and helps with neurological disorders.

You can enhanced the taste and the healthy benefits by adding cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, coconut oil, honey, etc.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond, rice or cow’s milk
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Directions:

Pour a glass of milk into a pot and turn the heat on. Add turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon and coconut oil. Let the mix boil for a few minutes. You can strain it if you like. Add honey and enjoy your turmeric milk.

  3. I have been wanting to try this, so I am excited you posted your recipe. Have you ever used a sweetener other than honey? I only ask because I am almost out of honey right now. I may have enough. I also have organic cane sugar or organic sucanat. I may try one of those, if I don’t have enough honey. I was just curious if you have used something else, and how it worked.

    1. Actually turmeric acts best when it is boiled … we use it in our daily cooking n found that cooking turmeric brings more medicinal value to it….. n still if u want to make it cold soak turneric in the milk for one or two hours in the sun.

  4. I have a ‘dose’ of turmeric every day, adding it to whatever I’m preparing, including a mug of cocoa when I have it. I’ve always liked hot milk at night; this sounds delicious. I’ll be trying it. Mulțumesc.

I love Turmeric milk (sometimes called Golden Milk) and it really is medicine as well as a lovely drink. Turmeric is amazing for fighting inflammation in the body which underlies many of today’s chronic diseases so you are also keeping yourself healthy as well as having a yummy drink…

  6. I love cooking with turmeric so I’m tempted to try this beverage! I’m just unsure whether I want to add black pepper to milk… Will have to give it a try.

  7. Turmeric has been around for thousands of years. I use it almost daily to relieve pain and inflammation. I’m off all pain medication and haven’t had a flare-up of fibromyalgia in several years. It also got rid of the inflammation in my shoulder avoiding surgery. I’m anxious to try this recipe. Cinnamon also fights inflammation. As cold as it has been a nice warm drink will be nice before bed.

  8. Thank you so much for this recipe! We will certainly try it out! All the best for the festive season and 2017!
