Enjoy your life without stress

Let’s talk about stress. Why? Because we need to talk about the elephant in the room.  Just kidding.  April is Stress Awareness Month so I thought to write a few words about it.

I am not an expert in stress, but in the last years I decided that I want to live my life in my own tearms.  Stressing very much was one of my problems, but in time, I managed to claim control of some things in my life and forget about stress. You can do it, too. Small steps, like babies, but on long term, big steps in improving your life.  So let’s start our journey about how to actually live your life without stress.

Managing stress is all about taking charge: of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, and the way you deal with problems.

Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. This is not as easy as it sounds.

Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs. Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.

  • Learn how to say “no”
  • Avoid people who stress you out
  • Connect with others
  • Avoid hot-button topics
  • Express your feelings instead of bottling them up
  • Don’t try to control the uncontrollable
  • Share your feelings
  • Learn to forgive
  • Set aside relaxation time
  • Do something you enjoy every day
  • Keep your sense of humor

You can increase your resistance to stress by strengthening your physical health.

  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Reduce caffeine and sugar
  • Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs
  • Get enough sleep

How you feel and the way you deal with a situation is a choice. You cannot control others’ actions, but you can be responsible for your reactions.

If the situation cannot be changed, accept it for what it is. Accepting does not mean giving up.

Relax, relax, relax. Sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. If we do not help ourselves, how can we effectively help others? Relaxation rejuvenates the body, mind, and spirit. Try to find something that you enjoy and do it every day.

Healthy ways to relax and recharge:

– Go for a walk

– Spend time in nature

– Do a sport you love

– Write in your journal

– Read a book

– Watch a movie

– Take a long bath

– Take photos

– Play with your kids

– Play with your pet

– Work in your garden

– Listen to music

– Get a massage

– Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea

To help you feel better try positive statements such as these:

  • “I’ve got this.”
  • “I can get help if I need it.”
  • “We can work it out.”
  • “I won’t let this problem get me down.”
  • “Things could be worse.”
  • “I’m human, and we all make mistakes.”
  • “Some day I’ll laugh about this.”
  • “I am not perfect and is OK”

When stress makes you feel bad, do something that makes you feel good. Doing things you enjoy is a natural way to fight off stress.

I love to take photos, play with my boy, take a walk, ride a bike and so many more. I am selfish. I am trying to be happy, to live a healthy and stress free life. You can do it. It’s time you start to live your life.

  1. I will add one more. Get a good nights sleep. Turn off the TV early and read an enjoyable book before you take it down. Remove all forms of light from your room including any type of device with those small led lights. Cherish your sleep time and give thanks for this time you get to rest. Try to get at least 8 hours a night and you will see a huge difference in your day.

  2. Thanks for liking my post! There’s a lot of good advice here. My favorite is calling yourself ‘selfish’. Here in the States (especially the ‘South’), selfishness has such a bad rep that doing the right thing for yourself can be criticized if it does not ‘help’ someone else! The ability to be selfish is essential. I like to think that how you treat yourself reflects exactly on how you treat others – you also deserve respect. And a break. And maybe chocolate. 🙂

    1. I agree! Learning to practice self-love and love oneself well is key to stress management! 🙂

  3. I am going to print this post off and keep in on my desk. You are absolutely right about how important it is to accept things which we can not change. But it does take time and hard work to achieve. Perhaps that is the point about learning to cope with stress- it does not come easy and maybe we should not expect it to. It is like any new skill, it has to be practiced. I am bad, bad, bad at coping with it still and am also not good at taking care of myself. But I am working on it. Being with my pets is the easy part….now that’s lovely.
Thank you and all my best wishes,
    Karen.

  4. FABULOUS!!!!! But really? I think if there is one thing that people could do in order to help this type of thinking catch on is to STOP THINKING IT IS SELFISH! It is not. Really. I think if people were less stressed then the way the function in the world would spread that “less-stressedness” and that in itself is a GIFT to the world. I think that people thinking doing stuff for themselves is selfish is part of the problem. 🙂 So thank you for making my world a better place by working at relieving your stress and making yourself feel better. I very much appreciate it!

  5. Very nice and useful post! I agree with you 100% “Avoid people who stress you out” -I think this is the first and most important. We may not understand at first how people influence us but when you avoid people who stress you the difference is obvious!

  6. Great tips. I slide too easily into stressful thinking. At the moment I’m sitting in the sun drinking tea even though I have so much to do. It’s important. X

  7. Great Post! Stress is the great equaliser, no matter your age, gender, or job.
