Homemade egg pizza

It is weekend it is pizza time. We love pizza! It is easy and good and healthy if you are making it at home. The dough recipe is from Gennaro Contaldo.

Dough ingredients:

  • 500 g flour
  • 325 ml war water
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt

You will need flour when you will make it.

Pizza ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • Homemade tomato sauce
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Bell peppers
  • Dry spinach

Directions:

Place the warm water in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.

In a large bowl place the flour and the salt and mix them. Add the water on top of the flour and start mixing until you have the dough.

Knead the pizza dough about 7-10 minutes.

The dough should be a little sticky, or tacky to the touch. If it’s too wet, sprinkle in a little more flour. Let it rise in the bowl for 1 hour. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap.

After the pizza has risen you can start making the pizza. Divide the dough in portions depending on your tray.

Preheat the oven at 245°C or 475°F.

Form round balls of dough. Place each in its own bowl, cover with plastic and let sit for 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours).

Flatten dough ball, and stretch out into a round: Working one ball of dough at a time, take one ball of dough and flatten it with your hands on a lightly floured work surface. Starting at the center and working outwards, use your fingertips to press the dough to 1/2-inch thick. Turn and stretch the dough until it will not stretch further.

Let the dough relax 5 minutes and then continue to stretch it until it reaches the desired diameter – 10 to 12 inches.

Spoon on the tomato sauce, sprinkle with cheese, and place your desired toppings on the pizza. I made one with egg for the first time. Was great!

Bake pizza in the 475°F (245°C) oven, one at a time, until the crust is browned and the cheese is golden, about 10-15 minutes.

  1. I am Italian, you know, so I can’t avoid a little critic everytime i see a recipe of a famous italian dish published by anyone without italian roots…(by the way do you have italian origin). The recipe looks very good but I would recommend you just one little thing: prepare the pizza dough the day before and let it rest overnight in a warm place. It will help making it more fragrant and will make digestion a lot easier. Your plalate will enjoy more and your stomach will be happier. 🙂

  3. I’ve seen some people add sugar to the dough, for the yeast to work it, is it fine if we don’t add it?

  4. This pizza sounds amazing. We buy fresh pizza dough from a btewery/pizza place. Always keep a couple bags of it in our freezer. Maybe this wi be breakfast one day this week.

  5. Oh wow! This looks fantastic! Definitely a recipe we are going to try. We love pizza, but get tired of the high bad fat, processed stuff we get from grocery stores and pizza places. Add an egg and it gets even better. Thanks for sharing.
