Fish fillet in butter and lemon sauce

Fish fillet in butter and lemon sauce

I like baking fish in the oven because is healthier than cooking in a skillet. In Romanian, most of the fish is associated with garlic, but I like it also with lemon, lots of lemon.

I found perch fillet in the store and I bought it for my little boy. When you buy fillet you get fish with almost no bones. He loves to eat fish so I try to have it on the table as often as possible.

This recipe is very simple and very tasteful.

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 fish fillets (perch or other fish) around 600 g -800 g total
  • 4 garlic glove
  • 2 lemons (1 is for decorations)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Chili flakes (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees F). Grease a baking pan with 1 table spoon of butter. Place the fillets in the baking pan and season with salt and pepper. Mix the rest of the butter with juice from 1 lemon. Pour over fillets. Cover the baking pan and bake it for 20 – 25 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Sprinkle the chili flakes on top.

Serve it with rice or nature potentates. Enjoy!

  1. Simple, easy, and healthy — the perfect combination (especially for a garlic lover like me). I love recipes like these that show that a nutritious, hearty, and wholesome meal does not have to be complicated. Thank you for sharing.

  2. That sounds nice. I haven’t seen perch on sale here in the UK but maybe another white fish. I think I have some hake fillets in the freezer so….

  3. This would work well with fillets of plaice but I never saw that on sale in Romania. Petronela really likes it but I cook in a frying pan with very little butter so as ‘healthy’ as in the oven but easier to tackle the biggest enemy of fish – overcooking. It’s such a delicate taste I’m not sure about garlic but I’ll try it for interest.
But of course the only ocean fish in Romania I saw frequently was mackerel – too strong tasting for this recipe I think. I think perch would be a rarity to find on sale here, not only in Wales but the whole of the UK. Romania is much better with fresh water fish. Here we’d have to rely on a friendly angler.

  4. oh I miss perch. I grew up in Michigan, catching & eating perch most of my life. Hard to find perch in Arizona. I still saved this however…for when I do ♡ #hope
    thanks for sharing
oh by the way, it’s also better in oven “for me” because that way I won’t break or have sticking issues.

  5. Fish with lemon and butter is always nice, the more butter the better for my liking but I know this is not considered healthy. However, I don’t use it indiscriminately and keep butter for special recipes. Perch is a lake fish and we don’t have it here but I have had it frequently in Switzerland and love it. I’ve enjoyed browsing through your recipes.

  6. So good. I’ve been making something similar for years. You’ve absolutely nailed it. Perch is the perfect choice for this.

      1. Just wanted to let you know that I baked this dish last night for Easter! And it was a super hit :). Thank you for introducing this healthy and yummy dish!
